I am running for Salinas Union High School District, Trustee Area 7 on November 5th, 2013.
I am excited about the opportunity to serve on the Salinas Union High School District Board.  Education has been both my career and my passion, and I look forward to using my skills and experience to help make our schools the best academically that they can be.  Great schools go hand in hand with great communities, and Salinas deserves the very best.

I will continue to be a voice for education, and I am committed to giving back to my community.  I hope that I can count on your support on November 5th.

Trustee Area 7

“My father, Fernando Elizondo had a long and successful career in public education, from being a young teacher in inner city Los Angeles when few others wanted the job, to administrator, to schools superintendent in districts all over California. He led big urban districts in LA County, where the problems were millions of dollars in budget shortfalls he inherited and had to fix. And he’s led smaller districts in rural communities where he fought for things like a new school bus and more computers for the labs. As Superintendent at Salinas Union High School district I know how proud he was to help lay the groundwork for refurbishing Salinas High School, a proud fixture of the community. Throughout his career he has not shied away from identifying problems and then making the tough decisions to put a school district on sound financial footing that will benefit students. My father is now retired, deservedly so, and could easily work solely on his golf game, salmon fishing trips, and being a docent at the local state park. But he’s decided to put into service his decades of experience and knowledge in the California public schools system to give back in the name of public service by running for Salinas Union High School District, Trustee Area 7. Salinas and Monterey County are communities he dearly loves. It’s home for our family. I think my dad’s objective for wanting to serve is clear: To do his part to make sure the local public schools are the best they can be so that all children get the education they need and deserve. I am not one for public expressions of political endorsements, but this is an exception, for an exceptional dad. I know he’ll make a difference. I am supporting him. I hope you will consider doing so as well. After all, good schools make good communities.” – Gabriel Elizondo
